San Diego, California

Mile 6870:

We arrived in San Diego this afternoon.  While we were visiting Los Angeles, we stayed with a family friend, Stephen Finkel, in Pasadena, CA.  He was a gracious host, and it was great catching up with him.  Before leaving Pasadena, we went to the Rose Bowl and by the house that was used in the movie--Father of the Bride.

It seems like the city halls in the California cities are grand structures.

When we arrived in San Diego, we went to Ocean Beach and then toured the Gaslamp District downtown. FYI--the Pacific Ocean waters were still cold in San Diego!

Hooray for Hollywood...

Today was a full day.  We started off going to downtown Los Angeles where we saw City Hall (seen in the opening credits of the old Dragnet TV show), the Dorothy Chandler Pavilion (where the Academy Awards ceremonies have been held in the past), Walt Disney Concert Hall, the Millennium Biltmore Hotel (also the site of past Academy Awards ceremonies).

Then, it was off to Hollywood.  We were at Hollywood and Vine!  We walked down the Hollywood Hall of Fame to the Roosevelt Hotel (also the site of the first Academy Awards ceremony); then to the Graumann Chinese Theater where there are handprints/footprints and signatures of movie stars.

There were 2 of them!

After the Hollywood Blvd. walk, we went to Beverly Hills and drove down Rodeo Drive (shopping district).  Some of the cars there were normal like the kind we drive.  We were noticing many Bentleys, Audis, BMWs, Mercedes, and the like, when a Rolls Royce pulled up beside us as we were waiting in traffic.  What a hoot!!!

After our fill of the lifestyles of the rich and famous, we headed down Sunset Blvd. and then on the the Santa Monica Pier.  There my toes hit the Pacific Ocean for the first time.  We watched a beautiful sunset there to cap off the night.

Los Angeles, California

Mile 6651:

We arrived in Los Angeles, California this evening.  Though I did not leave my heart in San Francisco, we did indeed leave there this morning and drove along the coast on the VERY winding California State Route 1 from Monterrey to Los Angeles.  There were many beautiful Pacific beach scenes along the way.  We stopped at the Hearst Castle in San Simeon, and saw some elephant seals sunning themselves on one of the beaches.
