Carlsbad Caverns

Mile 8344:

We left Las Cruces, NM this morning and arrived at Carlsbad Caverns NP.  The route took us through the Guadalupe Mountains National Park in Texas before winding back into New Mexico at the caverns.  Guadalupe peak is the highest point in Texas at 8751 ft.

The Carlsbad Caverns were amazing, dark, and chilly--compared to the 80 degree day we are having--which also has been beautiful!  We walked down the natural entrance to the cavern -- on a path that got us some 800 feet below the surface.  We took the elevator back to the top!!
